Thermal Imaging Inspections

Thermal Imaging is not a new concept - it has been around for a long time and is used in a variety of different applications around the world. One of the latest uses for Thermal Imaging is in Timber Pest Inspections - and SPM Wagga is at the forefront of this newfound ability.

Thermal Imaging works by detecting differences in temperature on a surface. It is not just looking for 'hot spots' - rather, we look for differences and anomalies in temperature which could indicate a potential problem. A purpose designed camera is used to convert readings of infrared radiation emitting from an object, and represent them in the form of an image, which then gives a trained operator a visual snaphsot of what is going on in that particular area.

By assessing the image and interpreting the results shown, the operator can    then diagnose potential termite activity in that particular area. The technology is not just limited to termite detection either - a visible difference in tmperature could indicate a leaking pipe, excessive moisture or any number of other possible conducive conditions, depending on the area being investigated.

SPM Wagga are one of very few Pest Management companies in the Riverina region that can offer Thermal Imaging Inspections as a service to our clients. Thermal Imaging is an ideal solution to situations where an inspection is requested or required however and 'invasive' inspection (where small holes or marks may be left in walls) is not possible or acceptable.

Thermal Imaging does not 'see through walls' - this is a common misconception among the public. Like all inspection methods, the degree of accuracy depends on the skill of the Inspector, and therefore all SPM Wagga technicians are properly trained in the correct use of Thermal Imaging equipment.

The Youtube video below outlines how Thermal Imaging works, and while the video is focused mainly on building and energy inspections, it depicts how a Thermal Imaging Camera shows operators the differences in temperature over different areas.
